Your customers now ask long questions in Google’s AI search and get a ready-made shortlist instead of ten blue links. On October 28, 2026, Google said it is taking ads in AI Mode to ten more countries, and part of your Google Ads budget may already be flowing into this format without a separate line in the report. This guide shows what Google AI Mode means for a business that pays for Google Ads: which campaigns qualify, what to fix in the account and how to keep control of the spend.

What Google announced: Google AI Mode ads in 10 new countries, the UK later in Q4

According to Google’s announcement, ads in AI Mode are scaling in Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore. Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom are planned for later in Q4 2026. Google also says AI Mode queries are on average about three times longer than traditional searches, and that click-through rates for sponsored and organic product listings are already similar. Both figures are the company’s own statements.

How ads look in AI Mode and what multi-turn ads are

Every ad is labeled “Sponsored”. A multi-turn ad appears in the follow-up questions of the same conversation, so a shopper who refines the request from “running shoes” to “for flat feet under $120” can see a relevant offer at each step. Multi-turn ads have launched only in the US so far. Google says it keeps testing formats, so the layout can change. A buyer in AI Mode stays inside Google for longer, which makes the ad closer to an answer than to a link.

Which campaigns can show in AI answers (and why there is no separate campaign)

There is no AI Mode campaign type. Per Google’s help article, existing Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns are eligible automatically and join the same auction. Matching works in two ways. Direct matching reads the query itself. Contextual matching reads the query and the AI answer, and it is available to broad match, AI Max for Search, Shopping and Performance Max. Exact and phrase match keywords qualify only when the query shows clear commercial intent. You cannot target AI Mode alone or opt out of it.

Account checklist: feed, broad match, AI Max, negatives, landing pages

Eight checks before ads in AI Mode reach your market

AreaWhat to check
Product feedTitles, descriptions, images, prices and return terms in Merchant Center match the landing page
Match typesWhich campaigns use broad match or AI Max for Search, and which stay on exact and phrase
Negative keywordsLists cover long, question-style queries that bring no sales
Landing pagesPages answer price, timing, terms and comparison questions
ConversionsConversion tracking is accurate and Smart Bidding has enough data
  1. Open the search terms report and mark long conversational queries.
  2. Add irrelevant ones as negative keywords.
  3. Complete the Merchant Center feed.
  4. Rewrite landing pages around real buyer questions.
  5. Test broad match in a separate campaign with a capped budget.

Google’s own best practices point the same way: pair AI-powered targeting with Smart Bidding, turn on text customization and final URL expansion where they fit, and keep product data fresh.

How to control the budget when there is no AI Mode report

Google reports performance from these placements only in aggregate, inside your standard campaign and search terms reports. There is no separate budget and no placement report, so control comes from the inputs. Negative keywords, brand exclusions and asset pinning still apply. Set a daily cap per campaign, compare cost per conversion before and after changing match types, and read the search terms report weekly for long queries. If cost per conversion grows after you widened matching, narrow it again.

US, UK and the EU: what to do in each market now

In the US the formats already run, including multi-turn ads, so check the account now. In the UK the launch is expected later in Q4, so prepare the feed and negatives before it arrives. Google’s help article lists ads within AI Mode only in English and in a limited set of markets, and no EU dates have been announced. Campaigns aimed at EU countries are not affected yet. Use the time to clean the account rather than to widen the budget.

A 30-day plan: test, metrics, decision to scale

  • Week 1: audit the account, feed and negatives.
  • Week 2: update landing pages for the top ten buyer questions.
  • Week 3: launch one capped test with broad match or AI Max for Search.
  • Week 4: compare cost per conversion and lead quality, then decide whether to scale.

Judge the test by qualified leads and revenue, not by impressions. If you want a second pair of eyes, our Google Ads management team can run the audit, and the setup guide for the new customer acquisition goal helps when new buyers are the target.
